Adding option to move transfer feedback rating from odesk.com, elance.com, freelancer.com over to guru.com

It would be great if buyers or developers can import their feedback rating (even if it's just the number without the actual individual feedback text) from 2-3 other similar reputable listed marketplaces such as http://Odesk.com, http://freelancer.com, http://elance.com

very important to not combine the feedback rating of http://guru.com with the other providers, each 3rd party feedback count should be displayed separately (e.g. Guru (7) Elance (87) etc) if there is one.

After all, the reviews/rating is something that the user has earned over the years and is the user's property. User should be able to take it with them anywhere they want.

It's very frustrating for a new user to start from scratch if they have proven themselves for years somewhere else.

This will add real competition and fairness to the game.

Guru could gain easily at least 5000 new users if they would add this feature. Guru can charge a fee for the verification process to transfer the rating.

Even if it's just the initial feedback rating would be great.

Hi Kevin,

It's an interesting idea, but I think the issue with it might be that Guru would prefer that you stick around here and progress within their system/service. Elance would feel the same, as would ODesk and Freelancer. Adding in the feedback from other sites is counterproductive in that the freelancer is promoted as having experience elsewhere which may lend itself to employers also going elsewhere.

Each of the freelance sites are owned by different companies and what you are proposing is to mash them up for the sole purpose of showing freelancer rankings which is going to take away income from those said sites because you can't bill through all of them.

If you have 0 feedback then you need to make sure that you provide employers with testimonials within your proposal. When I first started out, I had a few local clients write reviews which I posted on my portfolio web site. A few times I had potential clients ask for their contact information to verify the testimonials were indeed factual and I would have my "old" client call the new one (not vice-versa). It didn't take long for someone to hire me and then the feedback started rolling in.

That's a very good point. Even if your experience and feedback are elsewhere, there is no reason you can't use that data to boost your profile on Guru. It just takes a little creativity.

I understand both view points but I being a freelancer would want to go with Kevin Turner. I think these sites can have an option to allow other gateways/sites for rating at a minimal cost from us through Paypal or something. I mean if I take many years to earn in a particular site, I should be able to flaunt my earnings provided the other site owners get to earn some minimum from it too.

That way, it would be a win-win situation for both. Plus it would also benefit the clients as they can access our work and count on us even if we are new to the site. Also, we would in turn encourage others to join this site, saying them that we can transfer our rating too. So there is no need for a fresh start. Its almost like creating out own brand name that is advertised through various platforms.
