can I pay a safepay request without releasing the payment to the freelancer.

The freelancer in which I have awarded my project to has submitted a safepay request. However, our agreement is for me to pay the full amount once the project is completed. The freelancer is asking me to pay the safepay request. If I click on pay the safeway request, will the freelancer get paid right away or will I then have to transfer the payment to the freelancer once the work is completed?

Have you already paid the safepay request? If not, then that's what the freelancer is asking you to do - fund the SafePay. That's what SafePay is for. It basically a place to hold your money. It shows the freelancer that you are able and willing to pay, like,,,, look here are the funds agreed upon that you will get if you complete my job.

Funds are held in SafePay until the job is complete Then the freelancer will send you a request for release of the funds. If you are satisfied, then you can release those funds. If not, you can then file a dispute.

Thank you Kathleen, that's exactly what he is wanting. However, I just searched where to deposit money into escrow and can't find that answer either. I see the safepay request and I see a "Pay" button. Do I click the "pay" button to put it into escrow? I'm just afraid I'm going to do something wrong and pay before then project is done, then lose my money. How do I deposit money into escrow? Thanks so much.

Jonathan, I am not familiar with the employer side of Guru. Hoping someone who is will jump in and let you know the correct procedure. If not, click the help link, located above the big Answers banner above, and then click on Employer contact help link.

Hi Jonathan,

It can be a little confusing at first...the terminology can trip you up.

The freelancer will accept the project as awarded and then send you the project agreement. If things are good with that, you approve and then they will send you the SafePay Request. The request is simply a little heads up for you to fund the Safepay. It's not a release of funds to them, but to the Guru Safepay that will be linked to that project. Each project will have it's own Safepay (if you choose to pay by this method - others prefer invoicing instead). So you pay into the Safepay using whatever means of payment works for you (check, credit card, PayPal, etc.)

Later, when the work is done, your freelancer will forward it to you, and then wait for you to release the funds. I've had employers do this asap, while other doddled a bit and I had to request release of the funds. The formal term on Guru for this is a "Payment Approval Request." At that point, you need to be sure you have looked over the work and are happy with it. If you pay and then find it's not what you hoped, it's too late, so be sure that things are to your standards first. When you okay the payment approval, Guru will transfer the funds to the freelancer, and in doing so, they will debit the amount to cover their fees.

:)

Hello, Jonathan.

When you pay a SafePay request, you are paying http://Guru.com. http://Guru.com pays the Freelancer only after you click go approve the work. If the work is not completed as agreed, you can request a refund of the SafePay funds. The Freelancer will then either agree to the refund or dispute your request. If the refund request is disputed, we will step in and provide dispute resolution services that include mediation and, if necessary, arbitration services.

I hope this helps. If you have additional questions, please check out the Pay Freelancers > SafePay section of our Help Center (http://www.guru.com/help/employer-help-center/pay-freelancers/safepay/) or post here.
