The same way you place a flat-rate bid however I believe the employer has to specify that's how they want to pay. So if they have no set the project to allow hourly rates, you can not bid one.

If I'm incorrect, could someone please chime in.

I always bid a flat rate based on the hours it will take to accomplish the project. Many 'employers' want good bids and are flexible. That's my experience, anyway.

I agree, Betsy. I put my hourly rate in the "Enter Total Estimated Cost" field when I submit a proposal. I indicate that my bid reflects my hourly rate and that I can provide a fixed price quote upon learning the complete details of the project.

Mohammad, Before submitting proposal you need to complete your profile as much as possible. Enter in your skills and highlights. After that, search for jobs that match your skills and qualifications.

When you find one, up on the top right corner, in that light blue band, there will be a button labeled submit proposal. Click on that. Click on the Select Button in the table Enter in your hourly rate or fixed rate proposal and check the agreement boxes
Click on continue, Type your proposal Click on Submit your proposal
Click on confirm proposal

I also STRONGLY suggest, that you learn how to use Guru. Click on the Help link located above the big Answers banner above, Then click on the link that says Freelancer Help Center and go through all the link that appear in that section.

Thanks ladies. I charge flat rates for everything so I wasn't sure if people put in an hourly rate instead. Now I know :)
