Can I get my money back if I"m not happy with my freelancers?

I hired my freelancers back in February and have been very disappointed with their lack of communication and dedication towards my project. In the begining they were great and energetic. I paid them a first payment and ever since then they yet to send me anything that I've asked them to. Instead they have sent me webpages that were copied from other websites, logos that are not what I've asked and every time I'm online, they would sign off and then send me and email a few hours later. I want to get my money back from them and want to use another company that will appreciate my business and communicate with me when needed.

I went for one who was expensive, with good reviews (no what Dan deSilva said) and it did happened, I got a very unprofessional company that doesn't know how to do the work. Do not give work to [name edited out], they are totally corrupt. [named edited out] will ask you for money and no work will be done. Terrible business!!!

Generally, its the Employers fault. When selecting a freelancer, Employers look only at the price. There are many who would quote absurdly low prices and the Employers just jump at it.

Employers need to review the feedback and look for reputed Freelances who have demonstrated work experience and skills.

When one pays cheap, one gets cheap. In a global Internet based community, thinking that an offshore developer will be cheaper is rapidly becoming a misconception. The offshore freelancers should be seen as an additional source, not as a cheaper alternative. If this is done, and jobs awarded on skill, rather than the price quoted, most of these issues would go away

Did you through an invoice or did you use Guru's Safepay service? If it was SafePay, I highly recommend that you file a dispute.

If you paid through an invoice, I would ask the freelancer for a refund. If they do not provide then I would contact Guru for assistance although I believe there is not much they can do.

By making a payment, you do have the ability to post a negative review against the person. Just make sure to explain why you were unhappy rather then using insulting words.

Here's the link to the dispute section of Guru: http://www.guru.com/help/employer-help-center/dispute-resolution/

For future projects..... do not allow payment via invoice. Stick to SafePay only and you will be protected. It also allows you to release funds as the project progresses so you do not pay for items you haven't received. I personally use it and I'm a freelancer. It also protects us from non-paying clients.
