This new makeover is insane and disorienting. Where in hell do I find my Guru portfolio so I can add new work. Why do you constantly do upgrades on the Guru Website to baffle artists in navigating. This is just irritating.

        Hello Peter,

I’m sorry to learn that you’re finding the new dashboard to be a bit confusing; understandably, it may take a little while to become oriented. To answer your question, you can navigate to edit your profile by clicking the ‘My Profiles’ link located under your screen name on the dashboard. Once on the ‘My Profiles’ page, locate the profile in question and select the Work Samples link from the profile options displayed on the right side of the profile. I hope this helps!

You can access this page by clicking the ‘My Profiles’ link located under your screen name on your Dashboard. You can search for new projects my clicking the Search Projects button located in this same area, or by clicking the Leads link at the top of the page. I hope this helps!

The new look won’t be available until August 26. After the 26th, this new look will replace the current “My Account” page. As you navigate the site, you’ll simply click the Guru.com logo to get back to your dashboard.

Things are new and we all need time to figure out the bugs and the where-do-I-go stuff. It doesn’t look like we’ve lost anything but I have noticed a couple things that I kind of bug though. If you’re taking suggestions, maybe these will strike a cord.

The dashboard has a lot of wasted space in it. Do things have to be that BIG? Also, with the items being jumbled by activity rather than listed by the employer and project, it’s a mess to navigate. Is there any way to make it more compact and organised by project? It may appear more like our former inbox, but that’s not really a bad thing, is it? It was certainly easier to find things with it and we didn’t have to scroll, scroll, scroll. If I want to know when Employer XYZ funded my Safepay or sent an extra note about project details, I would find it more easily by going to that project under their name where the entire sequence of events is listed, rather than guessing what date the money should have been in on and having to look at the whole list.

If we’re stuck with the jumble, could we have the two most current alerts open for viewing and have the past dates as clickables maybe? One click, they drop down, another click, they hide.

On the plus side, it IS nice to have the employer ID listed along with their account number on alerts. Maybe now I can retire my collection of Post-It notes.

Can we delete alerts from our dashboards, or are they there forever?

The Dashboard Alerts cannot be deleted, however older alerts will drop off the page in time. Should you need to revisit them, you will be able to load older activity alerts. Thanks!

Not sure I’m a big fan of the new layout. I think the initial dashboard should focus on the primary areas, not a big rundown of account activity. The account activity should be a choice within the dashboard, not the primary focus. Looks too cluttered this way. Dashboards should be simple.

          Hello Rick,

I believe you are looking for your Project Matches? If so, these can be accessed by clicking the ‘Leads’ link at the top of the page. Then click the “Project Matches’ link to locate the projects that have been matched to your profile based on your specific skill category and subcategory selections. You are eligible to submit a proposal to every project listed in your Project Match area. I hope this helps!

As a freelancer, I find your new account layout does not meet any of my needs. I DO NOT want to see a list of employers who sent me invitations. Most of these employers (90%) send out mass invites for jobs with slave wages. I get their invites in my email where I reject them. I do not want to be forced to look at them again when I log into my guru account. You need to make this “invite list” hidden or allow the freelancer to delete them. You also need to place important information such as “Invoices” and projects which I’m currently working on at the top instead of this useless list of invites.

Normally I welcome the Guru site changes to make navigation easier, however, the new Dashboard doesn’t really work for me and site navigation has become more time consuming. The pages take much longer to load again and since time is money, not a good thing.

Hello Gabriele – Thanks for taking the time to share your thoughts. We’ve made some recent adjustments to improve site performance and we expect that the impact of these changes will provide for smoother dashboard navigation. We believe that smoother, quicker navigation will enable folks to take full advantage of the efficiencies afforded by the new design, and hopefully lead to a more positive experience. We’ll continue to keep a close eye on site performance and make adjustments, as needed, to ensure that performance is optimal. Thanks again!

I HATE the new Dashboard page that appears after signing into my account. I prefer the old opening page where everything is at my fingertips.

It would have also been nice for Guru to notify us ahead of time of the change and some clues as to where to find certain information. I had to HUNT DOWN the new projects so that I could submit my proposals. HUGE waste of time!

If there is a way to change back to the old format, please let me know.

I’ve given the new dashboard a day to sink in. I applaud Guru for putting vendor names in the project postings. However, for me, it is not an intuitive interface to use.

Rather than getting into the particulars that many people have noted, I wonder about something more fundamental — that is, at the end of the day, what’s been gained by making the new changes to the existing dashboard? I may be in the minority, but I don’t use the dashboard primarily to look at project-related messages/announcements; instead, I use it to locate projects to bid on. Unfortunately, the newest version buries this functionality.

Ideally, it would be great to be able to expand areas that are used often/more and reduce the selection options (like project announcements) that are not used as often.

Hello Robin – Thanks for sharing your thoughts. The new design is intended to provide users with easy access to actionable items, and also to alert them to key project updates. The objective is to improve the overall project management experience, and also to reduce the ‘What’s next?’ questions that many users of our site, both old and new alike, experience from time to time.

That being said, we are aware that some users may be overwhelmed with the amount of information presented on the dashboard display. We are listening very closely to user feedback in this regard, and will likely take steps to remove items that are generally regarded as ‘clutter’. In terms of locating your Project Matches, these can be accessed by clicking the Leads link located at the top of the page, or below your screen name. Currently, clicking this link will take you to a page where the default view is set to display Project Invitations. You’d then need to click the Project Matches link to view the new projects that match your profile. We are aware that this navigation is confusing to some users, and we are reviewing the matter to determine what adjustments can be made to improve navigation to this key area. Thanks again, for your feedback.

I’m trying to get used to the new dashboard… jury’s out for now. However, is there a reason I’m having to sign in twice? Once to log into my dashboard, and then again if I want to look at invoicing, messages, or again if I want to submit a proposal or read more about a project?

Hello Denise – Thanks for reaching out. Understandably, it may take a little while to become oriented to the new layout. Thank you, Jason. Have done so. One more thing. Is it possible to consider bolding or using a different color font to differentiate between read and unread messages in the new format? And group messages from one client into the same ‘batch’ like you used to do before? I receive numerous emails from the same clients on a daily basis and now they just post one after another (adding clutter and requiring scroll, scroll). I can’t tell which are old/new – wastes time. In that regard ‘old’ system seemed more efficient.

Hello Denise – All valid suggestions. We’re compiling a list of refinements to make, based on user feedback. The ability to discern between read/unread alerts, and the elimination of ‘clutter’ are both on the list. Thanks for your involvement!

You new dashboard design inconvenient compared to the old design.
Why i have to search Project Matches, before it was on the front page.
All pages now loading much slower than before.
Why my cash account is shown in russian rubles???
Sorry, but what idiot translate menu, do you accept payments in russian rubles, or just explain why you translate an interface?
Project Matches e-mail newsletters now is coming with delay of a few days and several times i haven’t chance to bid on the project because it was already awarded.
For now a main part of the front page is occupied by old information that i already know and really important information for me hide or placed on inconvenient place.
Sorry one more time, but it seems new design was created by people who newer work on this site.

      Hello Andrew,

Thanks for sharing your critique of the new dashboard, although I’m sorry to learn that you’re not pleased with the change. To address your questions, Project Matches can be accessed by clicking the Leads link located at the top of your dashboard page. Once on the Leads page, you’ll need to click the Project Matches link to locate the new projects that match your profile. We’re aware that some users are finding this extra step to be cumbersome, and we are reviewing options to make this navigation easier. We are also aware that some users may be overwhelmed by the amount of information presented on their dashboard page. We’re continuing to digest user feedback along this line, and we’ll likely look for ways to make sure that only the most relevant information is presented.

In terms of performance, we agree that site performance was indeed sluggish throughout the day immediately following the release. Since then, we have made adjustments to improve the performance of the site, and things appear to be up to speed once again. In the event that you are still experiencing performance issues, please contact us for direct support.

Regarding the currency display of Russian Rubles on your Cash Account page, we are not displaying the information in this currency format nor are we translating the page. As you know, all payments on Guru.com must be transacted in USD. Perhaps there’s a local setting on your machine which is translating the page?

Finally, the process governing the distribution of Project Match emails has not changed. These emails are sent twice, daily, to the top 5,000 Freelancers that most closely match the project’s skill requirements. If you are encountering a delay in the receiving these emails, please contact us for direct support and we will be happy to investigate.

Thanks again Andrew, for sharing your thoughts.

I do agree with few of the comments that the new dashboard UI design is not being designed with a thought in a scientific way. There are usability issues as I myself asked a question before not finding some features. Its better not to make the Dashboard clutter with Load of Messages like Facebook. Make it clean with all important topics/Navigation in one page. This should not be occupied with long Project messages. Also you make the Guru Logo as a link to go back to Dashboard. I am finding for a Dashboard Back link for last 7 days and today I invent that it is located within Logo link.

Hello Andrew, and to all others who’ve contributed their thoughts to this point:

Thanks again, for your continued input on the recent dashboard release, and thanks also for your patience while we worked to investigate the reported post-release issues. Regarding site performance, we’ve made a few adjustments to bring site performance back to optimal levels. Hopefully, you’re already noticing the improvement. We will continue to monitor performance levels moving forward to ensure that all aspects of the site are running up to speed. In the event that you happen notice any sluggishness, please contact us with details describing the specific area(s) affected, and we will promptly investigate.

Additionally, we are very much aware of the concerns relating to project Leads navigation, as well as those reports citing the amount of ‘clutter’ that is appearing on the dashboard. The good news is that we do plan on making refinements to address both areas of concern. Updated information will be posted to this discussion as new details become available.

Again, thanks to all who have lent their critiques, comments, observations and suggestions. This is very much a collaborative process, and your honest and candid input is an invaluable part of this effort. Please keep the comments coming!

Not only do I dislike the new “dashboard” but I’ve been complaining about the “portfolio handling” for years for the Illustration & Graphic Design freelance categories.
First of all. I don’t need to go to the “dashboard”. When I sign in I want to see all the stuff i USED to see. Now, I have to search for projects and look for info that used to be all on one webpage.
Also, the portfolio handling really sucks. If you look at say, ELANCE.com or iFreelance.com they have a much neater way of handling large portfolios. (Unfortunately, I no longer use those sites because of other issues)
The guru way of handling a portfolio is a fumbling mess. I have tried to compensate for this on my own by putting many images onto one file. The problem arises when you get many images and you are trying to organize them. All you can do to get them organized is to click the “UP” or “down” button. You can do this up to 100 times (each way) if you have that many images. God forbid you get them “organized” then decide to try them a different way or have to add more images. LOL!
Furthermore, providing thumbnails for each image…. another task that is cumbersome if you have a large portfolio. Why can’t the thumbnail be a smaller version of the original image. Why do I have to upload this? Or be stuck with the GURU thumbnail?
I’ve been complaining about this for years (as well as others) and it bothers me that GURU doesn’t pay more heed to this. Why not stop MUCKING with what was just fine and fix what’s really WRONG!
I pay good money to sell my services here. Please listen to what I keep telling you.

What does our membership fees go to, why aren’t our suggestions, feedback considered, do you not ask us the “Freelancers” what we would like before making all these changes?

Please be considerate in the future and as us first before making changes, get our feedback, after all we’re the one’s paying your salary!
