New Profiles: What Will Happen To My Data?

The time has finally arrived! On November 19 you’ll be able to start building your new, future profile! While you’ve already seen glimpses of the new profile design, you may have questions about what will happen to your account and profile data during this transition.

To kickstart your new profile, you’ll have the choice to convert your data over. Here’s how the data conversion will work.

Registration Data

Your screen identity and all of your contact info will be directly transferred into your new profile.

Work Samples

Your work samples will be organized into Work Collections. We’ll automatically create one Work Collection for each subcategory for which a work sample exists. These Work Collections will remain unpublished in your drafts until you select cover images.

Categories & Subcategories

You’ll no longer be constrained by categories and subcategories. Instead, you will create services and assign each service a category and skills. To help you transition to the new profile, we’ll create one service for each subcategory you’ve selected in your existing profile. The category for your service will correspond to the subcategory used to create the service. Feel free to edit or delete these services, and add as many unique new services as you want!

Feedback & Earnings

Your previously earned feedback and earnings will be shown both at the category level (on each service) and the account level (on your profile). Each time you create a service and associate it with a category, the feedback and earnings linked to that category will be displayed.

One Final Note…

Don’t worry if you notice changes to your new profile. We value your feedback and will be listening and making improvements on the fly during this transitional period.

Keep in mind you’ll still need to use your existing profile or profiles to bid and work on projects until we retire them in December. Make sure you customize your new profile so that it reflects the image you want!

Visit the Guru Help Center for more detailed information about how the data will be transferred.

Hi Anna, I’m really happy for the new profile, but i see one thing that in some way makes me sad again:

    “Feedback & Earnings

Your previously earned feedback and earnings will be shown both at the category level (on each service) and the account level (on your profile). Each time you create a service and associate it with a category, the feedback and earnings linked to that category will be displayed.”

Does this means that the feedbacks will not be in one place and accessible easily by prospect buyers?

Honestly i think you should reconsider this fact, we freelancers have no chances to get new job if feedback is not properly accessible, currently on the site i have a few feedback and only 4 shows up, i honestly find this an issue when i want to get new jobs.

    Thanks a lot

    Hi! Anna

Its great to hear the Guru is revamping but I would like to have more clarification on “Categories & Subcategories”. As you have mentioned that there would be services and each service will be assigned category and skills. I would request you to please elaborate on it as I am not clear on it.

Looking forward to hearing from you soon on it.

      Hi Richard,
You might find this previous post (here) helpful, but basically, we’ll give you a jump start with your new profile by creating services for you. For each subcategory you’ve selected in your existing profile, we’ll create one service. These services will be displayed on your profile and will be how an Employer finds you while searching. You can create as many services as you’d like in addition to these “default” services, and in any category you like. I hope this helps clarify things, but if you have any questions please feel free to post!

Ok, I might be a little slow, but where are the steps to find the new portfolio? I’ve been waiting for this upgrade all week long. Can anyone help me?

    Hi,
I have updated my profile in the new profile section. Can the employers see the updated portfolio?
    Thanks

      Hi Patricia,
Employers can technically see your Work Collections and other profile elements if you selected Public rather than Hidden under the Profile Visibility settings. However we have not opened up the new search on the site yet. That is how Employers will find you. Right now, you would have to share your profile URL with an Employer for them to be able to find it.

      Hope that helps!
