| Highlights: | I started my civil engineering career in 1959, working for the Public Works Department in the US Virgin Islands. I finish my career as President and Chief Engineer of Hawaii Consulting Group, licensed as a Civil Engineer (BSCE '69 Rensselaer), Structural Engineer (MSCE '71 RPI) and Land Surveyor ('66). I've worked all over the world: the Caribbean, the Northeast, the Pacific Rim, Indian Ocean, and the Middle East. I am one of the last "Civil Engineers" left, proficient in most of its branches: surveying, site design, transportation (highways, harbors, airports), water (collection, storage, distribution), wastewater (collection, treatment, disposal), coastal (shore protection, oceanography), structural, and construction management. Most of my fellow civils have specialized in one area, e.g. Bridge Design. And while they are much better at bridge design than I am (I've only done a dozen bridges), they probably couldn't topo the bridge site or layout an STP. Over the years, I've collected a wealth of engineering design handbooks and computer programs. And I know how to use them effectively: AutoCad '08, Civil 3D, HecRas, Risa 3D, etc. It is these powerful programs working on a state-of-the-art PC that allows me to complete efficient and cost effective designs.
