Description:
Hugh
A. Williams, is an American photographer of Jamaican descent,
born and raised in New York, NY. The youngest of five children, he developed a
fascination with photography while visiting family members’ homes filled with
photographs, some dating back to the early 1920s. In time he intuitively
understood the power of photographic images to communicate, empower and
influence history.
This collection of photographs made up an
extraordinary pictorial narration of a family, comprised of members living at
opposite ends of the spectrum in class and culture, bound by the common mantra,
“Do not bring shame to the family name.” These images as well as the stories
behind them gave him insight into the duality of human nature, the facade we
show to the world and the reality of life we all live.
