Highlights

I began my full time free-lance cartoon/humor illustration career in 1980. Most of my work in that time has been for Christian ministries and publishing companies, although not exclusively. The strength of my drawing style is in the personality that comes through my characters. Many of my clients use me year after year because I can handle a large load of work, finish it on time and often work within tight budget constraints. In short, i've been in business for over three decades because I'm good and I'm dependable. Although drawing is mostly what I do, I also write single panel cartoons, comic strips, and other materials. I also have a line of children's books I have written and illustrated. In addition, at my CartoonWorks.com website I have a large volume of resources such as coloring pages, clip art, books, animations, downloadable print materials, etc. available for church, school, ministry and personal use.

Additional Skills:	I do all my drawings on a Wacom Cintiq (monitor tablet) in Photoshop with a variety of brushes. I also can make simple animations by recording my drawing process and putting it together in iMovie. However most of my work is for print publications (curriculum, magazines, children's books), and finished art and invoicing is all transferred electronically.

Work Terms

I do all my work from my studio in Kansas City, unless I'm teaching cartooning or making a presentation somewhere. Because most of what I do is for charitable organizations, I have never had established prices in over three decades of free lance work. There is literally a ten-fold difference in what various clients can afford for similar work. If you don't have a set budget for the work you want me to do, I can sometimes give you an idea of what others have paid for similar work and we can negotiate a price from there. Every job is different so pricing can sometimes be difficult. I'd prefer you choose to use me based on my drawing style, not my price. I only accept jobs that don't conflict with my Christian values. On most projects, I first create rough sketches of what you need, and email a pdf file of them to you. You either approve, change or cancel. If you cancel I prefer a 50% kill fee. If no further sketches are necessary, then I will proceed to finished art and upload the finished file to a website where you can go to download it. After satisfactory completion of the project, I will email you an invoice and ask that you pay within 30 days. If you are a new client or if the project is particularly large or involved, I sometimes ask that some money be paid up front at the start of the project.
