Highlights
|
|
I've enjoyed several yrs working outside of guru.com w/ the same loyal clients but have now decided to jump back into the guru fishbowl! I've designed in the housewares industry for the last 9 years, after several years as a NY eveningwear designer for a few well-known companies. In 1997, I was on the design team for Tipper Gore's gown for the Presidential Inaugural Ball. I left the fashion industry & now design products across many categories for different manufacturers & retail buyers through art. I've recently forayed into eco-friendly product development, & my most recent design has been selected by International Housewares Association as a winner of its 2010 “Green House” Awards. The “Green House” Awards recognize eco-responsive product design. Winners were selected by the panel from over 300 entries. My stuff is sold at Target & other major retailers. I conceptualize with or without guidance; I work well with you whether you know exactly what you want or if you have little to no idea. My products range from colorful die-cut coir doormats to ceramics to stainless steel tabletop items to logo work. My style is broad & varied. This is a good thing! Your style becomes my style & sometimes vice versa. I've created clean, contemporary works as equally & as often as my more whimsical pieces. My art can be applied to many areas or industries besides house wares. I've never missed a deadline and always keep your budget in mind.

I'm often described as easy & pleasant to work with! I develop products for the home & garden through conceptual art. I have products that sell at many retail stores such as Target and World Market. I am the designer of a "green" garden product line, which is soon to be sold from the biggest retailer in the world.
Besides computer-generated art, I use many other fine art mediums & combinations thereof, as well as computer & fine art hybrids. I always begin my art with the pencil! This is where life & personality find their way in! I have created art for print (book & calendar) & websites. I’m often hired for my fashion illustration figures and colorful fun pieces.
Aside from my art background, I have several years of experience in the fashion / ready-to-wear field: I was an evening & daywear designer in the New York Garment District for 3 fashion firms. I held positions as Head Designer & finally Design Director. Some daily activities: Directing the multiple stages of design with a staff of drapers, pattern-makers, cutters, sample-makers, assistants, & showroom presentations to buyers. Sewing by hand & machine, including industrial. * cutting * draping * pattern making * fittings * fashion illustration * technical / flat sketches * concept boards / presentations * embellishment design in many areas: beadwork, laser-cut work, embroidery, rhinestone, etc. * daily communication with overseas factories. |

To begin, the client and I will discuss (by email, IM chat, or phone) the expectations of the project. I almost always begin work in pencil sketch form (the old-fashioned way - where personality is injected!) and get client-approval to carry on via computer-generated art or painting or both. I stay in constant contact throughout the project, offering status updates & project views (if requested) electronically.
Contracts are good - I prefer them. I typically charge an hourly rate and will be happy to negotiate that with you. Ocassionally, I'll agree to a flat rate per project, though it is not my preference, due to clients oftentimes changing their minds mid-project on ideas ~ It happens! I will give you an idea of length of time for project completion during our initial discussion. I like to receive a percentage of pay upfront, then an additional percentage mid-project (after you've approved what I show you), and the remainder of pay at completion.
