It has been very positively received by the parents of children with learning disabilities, for whom it was written. This is the opening chapter of Still Life, a novella in which I have been using an impressionistic, poetic style.
This is a style that I sometimes use as a starting point for writing advertising content, since it uses a lot of words and colorful phrases to describe its subjects. I find that, by writing about a product, business, or concept in this way first, I create a cache of catchy, poetic pieces that I can then fit into more structured writing.
It can also be helpful in creating a palate of phrases when I'm exploring for a log line.
