During four-year tenure, The Fayetteville Observer finished first in the General Excellence category for large papers as part of the annual NCPA awards. Won 1999 N.C. Press Association second-place award for humorous columns Honored in 1983 by Strategic Air Command Management Effectiveness Inspection Team as a Professional Performer. Served on a panel at the Associated Press Managing Editors conference in 2006 in New Orleans. The discussion, “Mission Impossible” explored how “ editors of small newspapers do the impossible every day.”
