The board of directors for the Sunset Hills HOA applied for this grant earlier in the year in an effort to improve the open spaces of land in Sunset Hills. The improvement plan consists of three parts: 1) increase sidewalk lengths to add additional exercise/recreation area 2) create a play area for children consisting of a swing set (2 toddler swings and 2 large swings) and two rocking riders and 3) a half-court basketball court. These improvements should increase the property values and provide a safe place for families to have recreation. The grant is a reimbursement grant. The HOA will have to pay for all expenditures and the city of Fort Worth will reimburse the HOA for $10,000 of the expenses. The total estimated cost of the improvements is about $20,000. There is about $5,000 worth of labor that could be completed by the residents. Under the supervision of an engineer or another qualified contractor, the volunteers would remove soil, erect equipment, pour park filler, construct frames for sidewalks and complete other similar tasks.
