Born in Washington DC and raised in the Northern Virginia area, artist Dee Van Houten has had individual exhibitions and works accepted in many juried art competitions, winning numerous awards for her paintings and drawings.
She was included in American Artist of Renown, an honor accorded contemporary American artists for the exceptional quality and professionalism of their work. Her art is represented in public and private collections in the United States and Canada.

FineArtAmerica.com is a social network and e-commerce marketplace for photographers, visual artists, art galleries and fine art collectors. This image is an original color pencil drawing. The flamingos are very detailed because of several layers of color pencil that were used to create the images. Graphite was also used to add more depth to the illustration. This was commissioned by an attorney and his wife.

The original painting was purchased by Fauquier Hospital in Warrenton, Virginia and displayed in the pediatrics wing.

This whimsical puffin gouache (opaque watercolor) painting shows three puffins intently listening to one of their friends who appears to be chattering away. There are incredible details in the faces of the puffins in this engaging and whimsical animal art painting. These are some of my favorite birds to paint because of the fun feeling they always convey.
The border surrounding the puffins is filled with swirling, twirling branch-like images that seem to be dancing around these adorable birds.
