B.O.O.T. stands for Bringing Others Optimistic Teaching. The aim of B.O.O.T. is to activate personal betterment, conduct family redevelopment, and improve moral behavior among at risk teenagers.
Career enrichment is the main avenue used by mentors to motivate personal... Show all B.O.O.T. stands for Bringing Others Optimistic Teaching. The aim of B.O.O.T. is to activate personal betterment, conduct family redevelopment, and improve moral behavior among at risk teenagers.
Career enrichment is the main avenue used by mentors to motivate personal betterment. The family unit is redeveloped from interactive family outings and get togethers. Moral behaviors are improved with practical lessons about respecting oneself and others.
The mission of B.O.O.T. is to act as a medium for helping troubled teens avoid drug addiction, gang violence, or teenage pregnancy as they complete high school and be prepare for work or continued education.
Unlike most programs, B.O.O.T. has a small, special niche for participants. The teens must still be in high school, have been previously suspended and/or arrested, and be able to identify a true interest in something positive such as drawing or sports. The parent(s) must assure their willingness to make changes for the progress of their child and to support their positive efforts. (Such as not smoking around their child and/or attending the child's band or theatre arts performances)
B.O.O.T. needs funding for the compensation of activities and pay to staff who work as teacher-counselors. The activities would include paying for the teens to attend museums, shows, and sports events.
Funding is needed for compensation for trips to the work place of professional patrons, who demonstrate hands on at their work site, and explain to teens the duties and requirements of their job.
The B.O.O.T. program also needs funding for a summer boot camp to specialize in redirecting youths with serious behavioral needs. The summer boot camp would require a facility where teens would participate in various productive activities, be fed, and be able to shower and change clothes during overnight stays, Monday through Friday.
In addition, funding is needed to market and make appeals for donations, support, and participation of the program. Marketing via radio and billboard ads, fundraisers such as neighborhood clean ups, and compensation for expenses of celebrity speakers in support of the program are needed. Show less
