Communication is a key part of success with any project. A client should expect to write down the requirements and deliverables of a project and any desires that are key to success (both positive and negative). With that in hand, an in-person or teleconference would be the next desirable step to clarify anything in the written requirements that are not clear. From this a final engagement document would be derived that would specify the deadlines and such and then work can begin. I am a big believer in positive outcomes and no unpleasant surprises and I believe this three step approach goes a long way to insuring that.
