My specialty is rapid creation of applications in MS Office+VBA platform.
I also excel at web scraping and processing large amounts of local data in Perl. I first learned those technologies while working for a financial institution.
I am a "journeyman" web developer. I have created web applications using Ruby on Rails and also Drupal (with OpenAtrium + custom PHP programming). I have experience with jQuery. I know my HTML+CSS, although I'm not a graphical wizard.
Usability is my hobby and it shows in my programs. I realize the importance of an easy-to-use, transparent interface.
In my work at the bank I have also been on the 'customer' side of an IT project. I worked with an external system provider in the business analysis and testing stage of a large IT project.
My individual projects so far include:
- several desktop applications for my bank (Access+VBA+Perl+Mysql) including a data warehouse with automatic generation of HTML reports
- lots of office automation
- web scraping projects in Perl
- a web app for real estate offers /Ruby on Rails + MySQL/
- a web app for content assessments performed by IDG Connect /Drupal + OpenAtrium + PHP code/
- some numerical computing in C++ (research for my Master's thesis, in progress)
My other professional interests include data visualization and statistics (BI).

Work Terms

Ideally, I prefer to talk to the Employer on the phone or Skype prior to starting work. I am keen on learning as much as I can about the Employer's business processes which can be facilitated by the use of sotfware.
In the past it has happened a few times that such a conversation allowed us to identify better solutions for the Customer than the original scope of the project. These improvements often had no effect on the project budget.
I am available to talk on the phone/skype between 6pm and 1am my time (that is 11am - 6pm CST) or at a different hour given prior notice.
I usually expect payment only after the Employer is 100% satisfied with the solution provided.
