I have been involved in many projects from conception to design, testing and implementation. One of my best skills is the ability to determine the needs of the user/client and create software designs that are not only functional, but also very simple to use.
PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE
September 2000-December 2001
CONTRACT PROGRAMMER FOR Energy company
All of the projects at Energy company required research, detailed planning, customer approval and involvement with the customer, and assistance in developing test procedures.
Market Mechanics Project - I was responsible for the system architecture for this project. Several UNIX servers were employed. I was responsible for overseeing the server configuration which included space allocaion, user id's and permissions for different groups. Three environments were created - one for development, testing and production. Additionally, I designed the formal software specifications and wrote Perl & UNIX shell scripts on which would encrypt, decrypt & transfer files on the web. The files were transferred via ftp. PGP Encryption software was employed for file encryption/decryption. Automatic emails were generated in the event of server/system/internet error. These scripts ran on redundant UNIX servers. & were automatically triggered by an Autosys scheduler.
Market Mechanics Failover server project - Designed the software specifications and wrote the software required for a redundant server for data transmission. This was required because the servers resided in separate locations utilizing different internet service providers.
Internet Billing Project - This project was similar to the aforementioned Market Mechanics project. However, these scripts resided on an NT and performed a few additional tasks which include the import & export of data to & from an Oracle database, and the parsing & restructuring of an XML file.
Designed the software specifications and developed VBScript Code for MS Outlook/Exchange server that incorporates MAPI, ActiveX and OLE DB technologies, with MS Access as a backend database. Some HTML was used as well. Visual Interdev was utilized for debugging purposes. This application utilized the custom modified form pages in Outlook and the user created fields for issues and assumptions tracking application. The exchange server is effectively used as a database that maintains the fields associated with the issues. Time and event driven email notifications are sent to various users that contain hyperlinks to the issues. MS Word document letters are also attached to the emails. These Word document letters are automatically created from the user-defined fields through ActiveX controls and attached to the emails as a MAPI object. The hyperlink directs the user to the issue, which is in an outlook public folder. The outlook address book provides the business address of the letter addressee using MAPI technology. The reports for this application were originally written in Access and run from Outlook through ActiveX controls. I am currently developing an interface to run the Crystal reports on a web server as well as several prototype reports. The Access backend database tables will be dropped once this interface is complete, although a few tables are still maintained for various reasons.
March 1999-May 2000
CONTRACT PROGRAMMER FOR LARGE DEATH CARE COMPANY
Developed Visual Basic and C++ interface to Crystal Reports for a client/server application that employs 15 different servers. This interface incorporates ADO, ActiveX, COM and OOP technologies. Created many Crystal reports for a large application that is distributed to over 6000 users. I also developed complex template Crystal reports for their developers to model all other reports for this application. Their environment multiple server/ multiple database SQL 7.0 on Windows NT.
1988-1999
contract programmer
Database Design and Implementation Overview
Created many databases and database tables in SQL, FOXPRO and MS ACCESS for various applications from accounting systems to databases for insurance companies, the death care industry and embedded controller systems storing large amounts of data. I am highly creative in front end database design and normalize databases efficiently and effectively.
Business Application Software Design Projects
Worked extensively with multiple SQL Server databases and servers, incorporating many Crystal Reports into an application (CAFÉ) for Stewart Enterprises.
Designed an accounting application which includes Job cost, Receivables, Payables and payroll modules. This software was written in FOXPRO on a UNIX platform. (Petrotech, Inc).
Wrote Data Migration software to convert FOXPRO database files Btrieve tables to be used for the Great Plains Dynamics Accounting package. This package which was purchased by Petrotech after they were acquired by Roper Industries. I was paid to learn the Visual Basic, Continuum software and Dexterity programming language in order to customize this software. (Petrotech, Inc. Belle Chasse, La)
Designed a random number generator, a random drug testing program and other miscellaneous software assignments. (Engineering Company)
Modified ASSET ALLOCATION SOFTWARE for Prudential Securities in their Senior Investment Division. This included interfacing an old DOS program with MicroSoft EXCEL spreadsheets using Visual Basic. (Investment Firm)
Wrote an interface to INVOICING software which interfaces with and old ACPAC accounting package (Shipping Company)
Wrote INVENTORY TRACKING software design for the shipping industry which maintains current and historical inventory status. (Shipping Company)
Wrote software for BARCODED FILE TRACKING system. This software enabled the insurance company to determine where the physical file of a client was located. (Insurance Company)
Wrote software to assist in billing for an Aesbestos removal company
Various other business/database applications
Embedded Controller Systems/Real Time Programming Projects
Developed the following applications:
QUALITY CONTROL software written to measure the size and weight of parts on a conveyer belt moving at 200 parts per minute, and accept or reject the part. This was written in C and Assembly language and included an ANSI interface to a remote terminal unit and re-writing various interrupt vectors. (Steel Forging Company)
SHIP ENGINE STEERING/ALARM MONITORING software design. This system monitors oil & gas temperatures, pressures, etc., and alarms the crew of the ship. (Process Monitory Company)
ENVIRONMENTAL GAS DETECTOR software designed to monitor explosive gases new the offshore rigs. These systems monitor various alarm points and sound audible alarms in the event of an emergency. (Process Monitoring Company)
PROGRAMMABLE TIMER software designed for the dirt bike racing industry.
Various other projects
