PDA Database Application
Araporcei.png
Description:
Objective: To create an application for use on a PDA which is used to rate horses and output the data to comma-separated value files
Challenges: Creating a user-friendly interface that is as much ‘point-and-tap’ as possible
Solution: Create an effective and easy to use interface that requires very little input from the user.
Outcome: A highly effective application that only requires the user to manually enter 2 fields, the rest are selections. Records can be created, edited and deleted as well as exported to CSV files

FAA Doument Application
FAA.png
Description:
Objective: Create an application that uses an XML database provided by the FAA to allow pilots to use a tablet type PC to easily lookup airport maps and information provided in PDF format.
Challenges: Making the interface very simple to use so that pilots do not have to look long at it to search for buttons, etc. Including consideration for flying at night which would require the display to be dark rather than light to preserve the pilot's night vision.
Make the entire system run from a standalone CD-ROM rather than requiring it to be installed on the computer.
Solution: We created a very simple interface that is primarily point and click. It includes most of the standard zoom, pan, etc. functions of Adobe Acrobat reader.
We used the previous PDF file inverter component we had created to invert the colors of the PDF documents to negative values (dark rather than light) without losing the vector quality.
Outcome: A very useful tool that pilots can use very easily without compromising the quality of the images. Also, with either the quick click of a button or as specified at startup, the application will display all documents with black backgrounds and negatively inverted colors and text as well as darken the interface coloring.

PDA Fire Inspection Software
FirePorts.png
Description:
Objective: To create a universal fire code inspection and recordkeeping application that would allow local fire marshals to perform inspections more accurately and efficiently and offer a centralized data storage solution.
Challenges: Creating a highly user friendly and intuitive PDA-based application that allowed for synchronization with the main SQL database that would be hosted on a remote server. Making the application universal so that it could be used in any locale with any set of fire codes simply by importing the fire code data into the database for that fire marshal.
Solution: Setting up a SQL Server database on a remote server and using SQL Server replication with the SQL CE databases on the PDAs. Working with both the NFPA and ICC to create import solutions for their fire codes. Developing the application in a manner that the fire marshal could then use an administrative interface and link individual violations to actual fire codes.
Outcome: A very powerful application that put entire sets of fire codes at the fingertips of the fire marshal. Prior to this, the individual fire marshals or inspectors had to rely on their own knowledge of the codes when performing inspections and assigning violations. Their knowledge came from a large stack of books published by agencies such as the NFPA and ICC.
We were also able to make the application and SQL CE database fit on a standard PDA without any additional storage required

Game Site
GameSite.png
Description:
Objective: To develop a game contest web site which is primarily used for marketing purposes. The site must direct the player through a series of games and must be highly configurable.
Challenges: The high degree of configurability of the site and games as well as our company's first foray into the world of Flash.
Solution: Develop a SQL Server based database backend which would handle 90% of the data processing as well. Create a single Flash component which pulls in dynamically configurable games and provides all communication between the games and the database. Create a selection of addictive and challenging Flash-based games.
Outcome: A very unique web site which is first functional and second extremely dynamic. The site is set up to use themes (graphics and color schemes) which can be set to change at scheduled intervals as well as an unlimited number of game schedules which allows the player to see different games. This site is a highly effective marketing tool due to the use of a customizable survey during player registration and ad placement between games which are tailored to the individual player based on their survey responses

PDA Truck Trailer Log App
IntegratedSolutions.png
Description:
Objective: To create an application that allows employees to enter trailer information into a PDA in order to track the location and status of various truck trailers in various lots; that information can then be synchronized with a central database server via wireless network where users can generate reports via a web interface
Challenges: Creating an application that can be used on multiple PDAs and be synchronized from the field via wireless network
Solution: Create a very easy to use PDA based application that allows employees to enter trailer information far more efficiently than the previous pen and paper solution. Create a central database with web server capabilities that allows for efficient and safe synchronization from any number of PDAs. Create an administration web interface that allows for reporting and record manipulation.
Outcome: An efficient and powerful solution that is very accurate due to its efficient updating capabilities and editing functions which were not possible on paper forms
