Project: Data Conversion & Interfaces (WTC Baan System)
Client: Western Tube & Conduit Corp., Long Beach California (USA)
Baan-Roadshow Interface:
An external software systems "Roadshow" is a strong tool for transport/delivery department. Roadshow provide efficient reports, route maps and scheduling for the delivery of customer's orders on particular date. This system expects two data file one for customer details and other for sales orders information. These Two ASCII data files get exported from BaaN to this system by using interface sessions and C programs. After processing all this information Roadshow system generate a report with scheduling of delivery. Details from this report are being uploaded into temporary user defined table, which is useful in providing details and printing Baan pick-list report during the shipping of orders.
ERP System-WMS Interface:
They use their own WMS (Warehouse movement system) and hence the need for an interface between BaaN ERP system and WMS system. In WMS system they use RF handheld devices to capture the inventory movement and maintain delivery data by using bar code scanning system. Using this interface user just used RF Handheld device to scan bar codes and other data, and through some hardware mechanism & protocol the data is transferred in form of ASCII files to BaaN ERP server. "C" language Programs provide interface screen and file handling on these RF devices. Then BaaN ERP API interface sessions upload these data files and updated inventory along with maintaining delivery data in BaaN ERP system.
Barcode Generation: For warehouse and locations movements' purpose a tag generation module has been implemented, this generates unique tag number for each item/bundle and prints Barcode for the generated tag numbers.
Beside these activities there were many report customization in Finance and Distribution modules in BaaN ERP system.
Role: The following responsibilities were involved while implementation:
· As a senior programmer I was involved in the designing of the WMS system. I redesigned the system to make it technically feasible, efficient and simple using the minimum number of resources.
· Prepared of process flow of WMS system.
· Wrote technical specifications for the system.
· Made the setup among BaaN, Bar-code scanner and Telnet server.
· Developed interface Programs in C language, BaaN API session's reports and forms for required interfaces.
· Did customization of reports and forms in standard BaaN sessions and Oracle system.
· Maintained separate file system for Bar-code scanner and pulled data for this file system from BaaN by using the BaaN Exchange schemes.
· Was Involved in User acceptance testing and Export/import of new/customized session from testing environment to production environment.
· Gave training to users about the new WMS system.
