Who is Adept Developer?
I'm Steve Parks and I started Adept Developer in 2001. I am based in Houston, but my company does business nationwide, in fact, we have some customers in the Caribbean as well.
I started my business as most, working on side projects at night while working as a fulltime programmer during the day. In 2002, I was able to incorporate my business and turn it in to my day job. I haven't looked back since. It hasn't always been easy, but it's always been exciting for me to be able to submerge myself into my client's businesses and learn about their products, services and industries.
Accomplishments
I have been fortunate to work steadily in the software field since 1997. I've learned to listen, plan, take action and improvise along the way--traits I learned early as an Eagle Scout.
* Built one of the first e-commerce sites
* Built a location-based service with a barcoding attachment well before location based services were as common as they are today.
* Built a wireless application that collects government regulatory data daily in the Water/Waste Water industry.
* Helped a startup get off the ground with website technology similar to Netflix
* Helped companies increase traffic and sales through SEO/SEM and other marketing strategies.

Availability
Adept Developer is a full time job. Although posted business hours are 9a-5pm CT, all of my clients have access to my cell phone, office phone, e-mail, Instant Messenger--you get the point.
Communication
As mentioned, I am available by just about any method of contact. In the beginning, I find phone calls (or in person when applicable) are best to make sure we're both comfortable with scope. Afterwards, generally e-mail, txt and instant messenger are great for short quick notes although my cell phone is always on.
Payment Methods
As you know, all payments must come through Guru per their terms and conditions. However, I am very flexible with payment terms. If the project is sizeable, I am happy to offer interest free financing in the form of 6-12 monthly payments, so long as everything conforms to Guru's terms.
Maintenance
Most websites, web applications and wireless applications come with a maintenance policy. For websites, this normally includes hosting, SEO reports and 2 hours of consulting or updates at a reasonable fee of $150/mth. Larger projects may warrant a larger maintenance fee. If this is a deal breaker, it's always up to negotiation.
Ownership
I've been down this road 100 times. Basically, you own the end result as delivered. I retain rights to individual code modules that would be considered "utilities" and not directly related to your software application.
