Posting Guidelines

What can’t I post?

Guru Answers is a community of often divergent ideas and opinions — strong opinions that contribute useful knowledge are acceptable and encouraged as long as they are expressed in a respectful manner. Please act with respect toward other users and their ideas and opinions. Remember that all content is public and viewable to both Freelancers and Employers.

Content that expresses hate, intolerance, or vulgarity will not be tolerated.

The following content will be considered abuses of the forums:

  • Harassing, abusive, threatening, obscene or otherwise objectionable language.
  • Posts advocating violence or any content that is in violation of U.S. federal or Pennsylvania state law. Content that may be construed as such may be deleted and made available to the proper law enforcement officials.
  • Unsolicited advertisements including posting the same content many times in repetition (spamming), repeatedly posting subjects that are off-topic, self-promotional content (i.e., resumes, proposals, professional background, mock-ups, or samples), sales pitches for products or services.  The repeated posting of previously addressed topics or questions is also considered to be a misuse of the forum.
  • Content which infringes the intellectual property, privacy rights, or other rights of third parties. Specifically, you cannot re-post or re-transmit content that belongs to another individual without that individual’s permission. Please view the IP Policy.

How do I notify Guru of forum abuse?

Guru.com’s staff will be moderating the forums. However, upon earning enough karma, you can help in keeping the forums free from abusers by voting down inappropriate posts.

What are the penalties for forum abuse?

In an effort to keep the forums free of abusive behavior, Guru.com will take the following action against posts considered to be in violation of these forum guidelines, Terms of Service, Privacy Policy, or IP Policy.

  • The first offense will result in an email sent to the user to remind him or her of the terms and policies and to warn against future violations.
  • The second offense will result in the suspension of the user’s Guru.com account for one full business day.
  • The third offense will result in the suspension of the user’s Guru.com account for one full week (seven days).
  • The fourth offense will result in the permanent deletion of the user’s Guru.com account. If account deletion is required and there are funds in SafePay, Guru.com’s Support staff will work with the user to facilitate the completion of the project and approval of payment or refund of the payment to the Employer.
