SafePay
How does SafePay work?
SafePay offers the most payment protection! The Guru.com SafePay service allows you to transact with Freelancers risk-free. You pay us and we pay the Freelancers only after you approve the work. If you are not happy with the work, request a refund. Our Dispute Resolution Department will step in to help resolve the dispute via mediation or, if necessary, arbitration services.
Use SafePay if you do not have an established working relationship with a Freelancer and if you want to protect your investment with the security of Mediation and Arbitration services.
How SafePay Works
- You award your project to one or more Freelancers.
- The Freelancer uploads a Project Agreement for your approval.
- After the Project Agreement is approved, the Freelancer creates a SafePay request.
- You pay the SafePay request.
- The Freelancer completes the work and submits a payment approval request.
- You approve the payment request only if the work has been completed to your satisfaction.
- Guru.com pays the Freelancer.
- You and the Freelancer leave feedback for each other.
Note: Release the funds ONLY if you are satisfied. Immediately upon approval of the work, Guru.com deducts applicable transaction fees, and pays the Freelancer. Funds are transferred to the Freelancer’s cash account and cannot be refunded to you.
If you are not satisfied, ask for a refund. The Guru.com dispute resolution team will assist with Mediation and Arbitration services.
Stop Disputes Before They Happen! Use SafePay to reduce your risk.
- Fewer than 3.0% of SafePay payments result in Mediation.
- Fewer than 0.5% of SafePay payments result in Arbitration.

What is my billing code?
The billing code is a unique number assigned to each Employer who registers with Guru.com. When you release your billing code to a Freelancer, the Freelancer can create a Guru Invoice or SafePay request for you. Awarding a project to a Freelancer automatically releases your billing code.
You can find your billing code on the Dashboard page under the Payments & Feedback heading and at the top of all emails from Guru.com.
How can I use SafePay if the Freelancer sent an invoice?
Don’t pay the invoice. Ask the Freelancer to delete the invoice and create a SafePay request instead. You will receive an official Guru.com “SafePay Payment Request” email.
How long will Guru keep SafePay payments?
Indefinitely. Once a SafePay request is paid, the funds belong to Guru.com. Guru.com pays the Freelancer only after the Employer approves the completed work. If the Employer does not approve the work and does not request a refund, and the Freelancer does not request approval of the completed work, the funds remain with Guru.com.
