Guru.com is the world's largest online marketplace for freelance talent. Through the Guru.com free service, Employers find top freelance and contract talent locally, nationally or globally. The Guru.com web-based marketplace connects businesses with more than 100,000 active freelance profiles specializing in more than 160 professional categories including web design, programming, graphic design, business consulting and administrative support.

In addition, Employers and Freelancers can take advantage of Guru.com's SafePay Escrow and Dispute Resolution services which greatly reduce transaction risks.

Here's how it works:
  1. Post your profile.
  2. Search for projects.
  3. Submit proposals for projects that interest you.
  4. Get awarded projects.
  5. Get paid through SafePay (mandatory).

1. Post your profile
You create an account and post profiles in the categories that match your expertise.


2. Search for projects
You can proactively search our database for projects.


3. Submit proposals for projects that interest you
While searching for projects, you can submit proposals for projects that interest you. Basic (free) profile members have tighter project bidding restrictions than Guru / Guru VENDOR (subscribing) profile members.


4. Get awarded projects
Employers review Freelancers' proposals, contact and interview their favorite Freelancers, and award the project to the best person.


5. Get paid through SafePay (mandatory)
You have two transaction options - SafePay Escrow or SafePay Invoicing.
Once you receive payment through SafePay, you and the Employer provide feedback on each other.
SafePay Escrow
SafePay Escrow offers you the most payment protection when transacting with Employers.
Escrow helps you to avoid unpaid Invoices. It also allows you to accumulate money-earned and feedback statistics online, and it protects your financial and tax ID information.
If you are working with a new Employer, use Escrow.
SafePay Invoicing
SafePay Invoicing allows you to accumulate money-earned and feedback statistics online. It also protects your financial and tax ID information.
However, we cannot assist you with unpaid Invoices when you use SafePay Invoicing.
Only use Invoicing if you are working with an Employer you already know and trust.
The cost for services

The cost of services depends on the following.
  • Membership Type
    You must select a membership type for each profile you post. There are three membership types.
    Basic
    Free membership
    Guru
    Membership fees range from $29.95 to $99.95 per quarter
    Guru VENDOR
    Membership fees range from $38.94 to $129.94 per quarter

  • Project Fee
    Guru.com charges all Freelancers either a 5% or 10% Project Fee. The fee is based on your profile's membership type and is subtracted from the total amount an Employer pays you through SafePay. Guru and Guru VENDOR members owe a 5% Project Fee. Basic members owe a 10% Project Fee.

  • Escrow Fee
    Freelancers who choose to use the SafePay Escrow service to protect their earnings are charged a 2% Escrow Fee.

  • Employer Payment Method Fees
    Employers can pay your Invoices and Escrow requests via Check, E-check, PayPal, Credit Card, Wire Transfer, and SafePay Account funds. If an Employer pays your Invoice/Escrow request by Credit Card or PayPal, you will be charged an extra fee.

  • Freelancer Payment Method Fees
    You may be charged a small processing fee depending on the payment method you've selected for Guru.com to pay you.

Only use Invoicing if you are working with an Employer you already know and trust.
Privacy protection

Guru.com is firmly committed to your privacy. The information contained within your account is only used to match your profile with projects for which you choose to submit a proposal. Your contact information is never released to third parties.

Freelancer profiles are displayed in search results listings without contact information, unless Freelancers choose to display their contact information to registered Employers. Freelancer contact information is revealed to Employers after Freelancers submit proposals for projects.

How transactions are secured
Guru.com is a VeriSign Secure Site, and all transactions are conducted in a Secure Socket Layer (SSL) session. The Secure Socket Layer encrypts all transaction data for transmittal in a format that prevents data theft. This process protects your private information from being disclosed to third parties.
