I am an Illustrator at heart. Along the way, I have learned to be a designer and a bit of a developer, but drawing, be it by pen, paintbrush, or mouse, remains at the root of everything that I do.

About

Good design comes from good information, otherwise at best it's just a mediocre copy of some other designer's style.

My 32 year design career has includes work as an art director, art professor, cartoonist, illustrator, production artist, sign painter, and studio owner. I bought my first Mac in 1987, and have been a part of the digital revolution ever since. I studied fine art before graduating with a BS in Marketing; typography from an 84 year-old sign painter; digital publishing through trial and error; and earned a Master of Fine Arts in Graphic Design. That background drives my work today. I understand both the power and the limitations of today's technology, and my design, I believe, is stronger for it.

Work Terms

Work terms are always subject to negotiation, depending on the project. I insist on plenty of communication, especially at the onset of a project, because (see tagline...) good design is impossible without good communication. The more I am able to know about you and your product, service, or message, the better I can craft a design that fits your specific needs. Project timelines, therefore, will always include several rounds of proofs. Payment, also, is dependent upon the project. Smaller projects can be paid upon completion, while larger projects may dictate payment as the project progresses. My preferred form of contact is email, but I am accessible via Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, and Skype. Once we establish a relationship, SMS is also an option. Finally, I am a design professor. During the academic year my availability may occasionally be dictated by my teaching schedule, although this should only be an issue for extremely tight deadlines. Give me a week and I can make it work.
