Words, not numbers are my thing. Use a fresh eye to get help finding the right words for your letter, report, story...

I have a Bachelor of Arts (English, Geography) and post-graduate Higher Diploma in Education. I have more than thirty years’ experience in the post-school education and training sector, and for the last nearly 25 of those, as an independent contractor. Clients have included tertiary education institutions (local and international), sector education and training authorities, private companies, government departments and donors, as well as grassroots community organisations. Roles have varied from the development of systems for quality management, to learning materials development, research, policy analysis and report-writing.

Prior to becoming an independent contractor, I worked in both the private and non-profit sectors, in various capacities, ranging from the development of educational materials for second language English learners, to administration and fundraising. I worked as an administrative officer in the Chamber of Mines, and while in the parking industry, was administration manager for 29 car parks with revenues averaging R 1 million each, per month. As a fundraiser, I exceeded targets and was expected to conduct funding negotiations with senior people in both the business and diplomatic worlds.

I have been a volunteer governor and fulfilled leadership roles in a range of organisations concerned with causes relating to children including street children and the provision of financial and social support to for youth wishing to pursue technical and vocational occupations; in this capacity have twice contributed articles to a local periodical that promotes the work of TVET. As a volunteer in the street children movement, I was a member of the Board of Management of Boys’ Towns South Africa; in as chairperson of Project Street Children - Education and Social Support, I initiated the Johannesburg Street Children Coordinating Committee, and received a Rotary award for this work.

Work Terms

I am currently not taking on work through Guru as I am working on other projects.
However, I remain open to invitation.

My rates vary, and are negotiable, and are commensurate with what the local market supports, and my experience in relation to the project. Happy to work on both hourly basis fixed price per project (or word/page), with agreed milestones and deliverables.

I am available standard office hours, Central African Time, usually Monday to Friday, depending on projects, but by arrangement, can be available outside those hours. Because I also work with face-to-face clients in South Africa, I can be away from my office from time to time, so e-mail communication is preferred, with Skype calls when needed.

No porn, child abuse or homework assignments.
