Professional Editor & Proofreader

I have been editing, proofreading, and helping authors, screenwriters, and businesses for over 10 years.

I am a British ex-pat currently living in Italy. However, I am thoroughly conversant with US/Canadian/Australian/Asian spelling and grammar conventions. I am also familiar with the major style guides from the US and the UK.

PROCESS
Stage one (first round of proofreading):
An initial run-through of the manuscript for pure spelling, grammar, and punctuation errors.

Stage two (first round of proofreading):
Go through the document again with Tracked Changes on as a line edit/copyedit round; checking for awkward sentence construction, etc.

Stage three (second round of proofreading):
Answering any questions the author has asked following the first round.
Implementing any answers to questions I may have asked of the author for clarification.
Another run-through as a final sanity check for any errors that may have been missed or introduced during the line edit/copyedit stage.

For proofreading work, I complete the following checks, along with any editing suggestions:

* Spelling - for requested country

* Grammar:
* Tense usage
* Singular/plural inconsistencies
* Punctuation
* Repetitive words
* Correct capitalization
* Sentence structure - dangling modifiers, etc.
* Missing articles

* Consistent spelling and hyphenations
* Word spacing is correct
* Sentence flow & vocabulary
* End quotes are not missed
* Bullets are checked for standard usage
* Garbage characters are removed
