My first sales job was in direct sales, working for myself selling cutco cutlery. That is when I learned the art of sales. Overcoming objections. The numbers game. Time management. Funnel management. etc. It has been the foundation for my sales career which has taken me to the top of sales teams at companies like Cox Communications and LivingSocial.com to name a couple. One of the biggest lessons i've learned in my 10+ years is to always learn. The more I learn the more I realize how much I don't know.
