Work Terms

The design process is classically subdivided into several phases.
We base our quote and contract deliverables on these phases as described below:

Phase 1- Concept Design
The design process begins with the client provides an idea of what is desirable in the boat, its appearance, layout, performance etc., i.e. the concept that he has in mind. Any required structural details should be identified at this time. The client's initial requirements are reviewed and summarized. Conceptual specifications, outboard profile, deck and interior layout sketches are prepared for review. These drawings serve a basis for the Preliminary Design.

Phase 2 - Preliminary Design
The Preliminary Design phase begins with a review of the client's comments and requested modifications on the Concept Design which, if practical, will be incorporated into the design. During this phase, the designer and client interaction are most important since at the end of this phase the design will be frozen. "Frozen" means that the size, configuration, powering, structure, general arrangement, and all major equipment will have been defined.
Then the preliminary 3D hull form is developed and optimized for beauty, performance and stability. Preliminary construction drawings are developed to integrate the boat's structure with the accommodations. Hydrostatics calculations are performed.
The Preliminary Design drawings form the basis for the Final Design.

Phase 3 - Final Design
Final Design is based on the client's approved Preliminary Design, and any client requested changes to the design after this phase commences, will be billed as an added contract cost. Changes are not easy to incorporate once Final Design begins.
Phase 3 produces the final construction drawings. Calculations for the hull structure are performed. Hull lines are faired. The weight summary, hydrostatics, and stability calculations are refined and finalized. Final engineering calculations and drawings are performed.
