About

Helping you grow your mission, raise more money, and reach more people.

Wild Moon Consulting is a full-service, mission-driven grant writing and grassroots fundraising consulting firm that specializes in working with small and medium-sized nonprofits that focus on community organizing, advocacy, nonprofit media, and social, economic, and racial justice.

Our focus is on collaboration and partnership, ensuring that your mission and values shine through in all of your communications.

As National Field Coordinator for a national community organizing nonprofit for six years, I raised several million dollars in grant funding, largely from small grants by local foundations or funders with a focus on grassroots work. I also wrote and coordinated several large, complex federal grant applications for multiple entities and developed and ran trainings several times each year on fundraising topics.

Now, I manage all grant operations for a nonprofit with a $500,000 annual foundation fundraising budget. I research new foundations, write proposals, and prepare reports, as well as manage the calendar so no deadlines get missed.

I helped an advocacy organization set up an email alert program and develop an online fundraising program that brought in 50% more funding in its first year and raised awareness of important public issues.

I have a “holistic” approach to this work, having learned over the years that all parts of an organization are related and none are insignificant.

Work Terms

While I prefer to work Monday through Friday during the day, I recognize that opportunities can come up suddenly and that successful nonprofit executives almost never see a 40-hour workweek.

I am skilled in working at a distance with clients and coworkers. I use Skype, email, Google calendar and Drive, as well as telephone and text. What works best for you works best for me.

Communication is critical in successful grant writing. I generally have a long conversation at the beginning of a project, then outline a work plan and send it to the client. We discuss and fine tune it and then get to work! I send drafts of various pieces of an application as soon as they're finished for client review and markup.

I will not submit an application or part of an application without specific and clear client approval.

I prefer to set an "internal" deadline at least three to five working days out from an actual deadline. This ensures that any last-minute items are handled and avoids many of the stressful scenarios inherent in working up until the actual deadline.

Please note that it is considered unethical for fundraising professionals to work on a contingency or percentage basis. Therefore, I do require a simple written contract that sets out payment amounts and terms and that protects both me and the client. I generally bill on an hourly basis (I work quickly) but am open to a flat fee, depending on the project and the client.
