Injection Mold Tool Design

$60/hr Starting at $500

We are a professional product development company and we specialize in plastic injection mold product and tool design.

Injection mold tool design is the process of creating a tool or mold that is used to produce plastic parts via injection molding. Injection molding is a manufacturing process that involves injecting molten plastic material into a mold, allowing it to cool and solidify, and then ejecting the finished part. The tool or mold used in injection molding is critical to the success of the process, as it determines the quality and consistency of the final product.

Injection mold tool design involves several key steps. The first step is to determine the requirements of the final part. This includes factors such as size, shape, and material properties. Once these requirements are established, the next step is to design the mold itself. This involves creating a 3D model of the mold using computer-aided design (CAD) software.  We are using Fusion360 from Autodesk.

The design of the mold must take into account several factors, including the type of plastic being used, the size and shape of the part, and the manufacturing process itself. For example, the mold must be designed to accommodate the injection molding machine, including the size and shape of the nozzle and the clamping mechanism.

Another key factor in injection mold tool design is the cooling system. Plastic parts produced via injection molding can be prone to defects such as warping, and proper cooling is critical to preventing these defects. The mold must be designed to allow for effective cooling, with channels and other features built into the mold to ensure even distribution of coolant. This is where our experience come to light.

Once the mold design is complete, it must be manufactured. This typically involves CNC machining, although other methods such as casting or forging may be used. The finished mold is then installed in the injection molding machine, and the production process can begin.

In summary, injection mold tool design is a critical component of the injection molding process. It involves designing a mold that can produce high-quality plastic parts with consistent quality and performance. Factors such as material properties, cooling, and manufacturing process must be taken into account when designing the mold, and the finished product must be manufactured to precise specifications using advanced machining techniques.

The company have 27 years experience and we have expert tool designers with more than 34 year experience. We have done projects for Automotive, Medical, Consumer Products, Farming, sports equipment and many more. Software: Fusion 360.
