"It worked good," a friend says.
"Well," I correct with a smile, to tease her. "'It worked well.' Adverb, not adjective."
My friend good-naturedly grumbles about the "grammar lexicon given flesh"--me. Not everyone reads grammar handbooks for fun. Then again, not everyone giggles over the typo in a restaurant's nutritional brochures, either. I'm a freak, I guess.
But I'm a useful freak.
I understand both what proper grammar is and also WHY it's correct, and I even know the differences between "objective" rules and "subjective" ones.
Clear, concise, and consistent with your preferred style—and with a dry sense of humor, to boot. What more could you want in an editor & proofreader?
