A dynamic cooperative consultant

$80/hr Starting at $25

Jason is a collaborator at the TerraLuna Collaborative, a cooperative consulting firm specializing in evaluation, organization and program development, and research. TLC is a Minneapolis-based evaluation co-operative formed in 2013 (www.terralunacollaborative.com). We believe that evaluation can lead to actionable change, improved effectiveness, and ultimately, social impact. We recognize that each new challenge can be addressed in a variety of ways, using a variety of approaches and we work collaboratively with community partners to design our evaluations. We ask tough questions and search for answers that stand up to scrutiny. We support the change process by understanding how problems have been addressed in the past, and supporting the evaluative processes to co-create innovative solutions. Our clients demonstrate a commitment to social justice, social equity, and systems change. They operate in places of complexity. Our learnings, clarifications, and data help clients create sustainable programs and policies. We support our clients in an ongoing process of inquiry and self-reflection, at all stages of their need for evaluation. Key Concepts that Underpin Our Work These concepts underpin our work: systems thinking, human-focus, co-creation, complexity and emergence, and social justice. Systems thinking. We seek to: 1) describe these nested systems; 2) to capture the perspectives of people within each of these smaller formal and informal, visible and invisible nested systems, and; 3) identify interrelationships and exchanges between these systems. Human-focus. Ultimately, systems are made up of people who embody the characteristics of being human (e.g. caring, unpredictability, the desire to connect, the desire to belong). In supporting systems change efforts, we cannot lose sight of the human endeavor. Co-creation. The process of systems change and its evaluation are interwoven, interdependent, iterative, and co-created. Developmental evaluation is part of the change process. Complexity and emergence. We use complexity premises and dynamics to guide innovation, adaptation, and systems change strategies; to interpret what is developed; to adapt the evaluation design as needed; and to analyze emergent findings. Social justice. Through the design of our evaluations, including the methods we select and the ways we engage with our partners, we seek to lessen and eliminate injustice and inequity. Solving our communities’ greatest challenges requires new ways of thinking, acting, and partnering. Therefore, we organized TerraLuna as a cooperative. This structure aligns our work with recognized, cooperative principles, including democratic control, autonomy and independence, concern for community, and education. After years of working individually, the members of TerraLuna Collaborative came together to form a cooperative evaluation firm committed to partnering with clients for social change.
