Academic Writer and Curriculum Designer

$30/hr Starting at $25

My experience at Carnegie Mellon University and Boston University has well prepared me to assist other educators and organizations in developing new courses and curricula, as well as craft thoughtful, professionally-tailored written texts. First, I have over 8 years of experience in course design and instruction. During my PhD study in Literature at Carnegie Mellon, I served as the primary instructor for fourteen sections of a first-year writing course, as well as courses in gender studies, art history, literature, and design. Teaching and assessing students hundreds of students has allowed me to more effectively assist instructors from different disciplines in creating assessments, providing summative and formative feedback, and training students to think and read critically. Outside of Carnegie Mellon, I have applied research-based principles from cognitive and educational psychology to help different institutions develop online courses via Acrobatiq, a Pittsburgh-based start-up that grew out of Carnegie Mellon’s Open Learning Initiative (OLI). Lastly, I am experienced in helping people customize individual courses both online and in-person--a skill that I currently employ at Boston University. Second, I am skilled in academic writing; specifically, crafting arguments, researching, and proofreading. I have published multiple journal articles and written a dissertation during my PhD at Carnegie Mellon, and am familiar with MLA formatting (and, to a lesser extent, APA formatting). I would be glad to help you polish your writing, whether it's by editing or other more specific tasks. In my current job at Boston University, I constantly draft summary reports and other genres of professional writing--I can assist you with those as well. Feel free to contact me if you have any questions. I look forward to helping you with your task!
