Cost-of-living crisis: Home-heating oil prices drop but we still face double the bills of last year
The cost of home-heating oil has fallen back over the last few weeks.But householders are still paying almost double the outlay of just a year ago. With winter on the way many people are taking delivery of oil, with average prices now down €250 for a 1,000-litre fill compared with prices in June. This is a fall of around 20 per cent.However, the current cost is still almost double what the 1.5 million households that use the fuel were paying last year.

Locals mourn loss of Limerick man in violent assaultTributes have poured in for the 29-year-old man who died yesterday after being injured in an assault in Kildare, Dylan McCarthy from Kilmallock, six of whose organs were being arranged for donation on Monday night. The local community in the Limerick town are in shock following his death. “Dylan’s heartbroken parents Eamonn and Marita, sister Orla and partner Glenn, new nephew Liam, Dylan’s partner Aoife, aunts, uncles and the McCarthy and O’Doherty families are grateful to have had Dylan for 29 years. We are very thankful for all the masses, prayers and good wishes for Dylan,” a spokesperson for the family said. The local church has said that funeral arrangements will be announced after organ donation has taken place.The Irish Examiner

Murder inquiry after girl, 9, shot in Liverpool
A nine-year-old girl has been shot dead in Liverpool and two other people are in hospital with gunshot injuries. Officers began a murder investigation after attending a house on Kingsheath Avenue, Knotty Ash, at 10pm following reports an unknown male had fired a gun inside the property, Merseyside Police said. The nine-year-old girl suffered a gunshot injury to the chest and was taken in a critical condition to hospital, where she later died.

Trump files lawsuit challenging Mar-a-Lago search by FBI
Former President Donald Trump filed a lawsuit on Monday seeking the appointment of a special master to review the materials seized by the FBI during a search of his Mar-a-Lago home and asked a judge to order investigators to immediately stop examining the items.  Mr Trump is also seeking a more detailed inventory of the items taken from his private club in Florida earlier this month, as well as the return of any items seized that he says weren’t within the scope of the search warrant. The lawsuit—titled Trump v. United States Government—alleges the “decision to raid Mar-a-Lago, a mere 90 days before the 2022 midterm elections, involved political calculations aimed at diminishing the leading voice in the 

Republican party, President Trump.” A special master is a third party, usually a retired judge, who reviews evidence to determine whether it is protected by attorney-client privilege, executive privilege, or similar legal doctrines .
