My work background is varied and extensive, but has always centered on my lifelong passion for literature. Book publishing figures most prominently in my background, and my skills apply to forms of creative and commercial writing. I am an experienced developmental and line editor. I was also a literary agent, successfully placing books with houses like Scribner’s and HarperCollins, and short stories in magazines like The New Yorker. Earlier, I was a first reader for New American Library, Charles Scribner’s Sons, Summit Books (then a division of Simon & Schuster); and I was a first round judge for the PEN/Nelson Algren Fiction Award. Other editorial positions were at Ace Books and William Morrow; and my very first job in publishing was as a proofreader of college textbooks at Harcourt, Brace in Manhattan. In t
