Dbrand trolling Decals that are Nothing

$50/hr Starting at $50

The Nothing Phone 1 is now available after months of anticipation and hype. Wouldn't it be nice if you could have that look on the phone you already own? We got our hands on the device this week, and we found that it's basically just a standard smartphone with a gorgeous translucent rear.

Dbrand, a device outfitter, set out to achieve just that, and in the end, it produced... Something. It's a selection of skins and cases that complement the geometric white and gray design of the visible internals of the Nothing Phone 1, but you can also use them with specific iPhones, Pixels, and other gadgets.

The Nothing phone's aesthetics, according to Dbrand CEO Adam Ijaz, are its key selling point. He thinks that no one would want to put a case or skin on it. "How do we make money from nothing if we can't cover the phone?" Ijaz wrote in an email. Dbrand believes that there won't be many Nothing phones in the wild and that the brand is "untested" and "overhyped," but consumers are drawn to the devices' aesthetics.

The Something line has limited supply right now, and the first run will contain models for the Samsung S22 Ultra, the Pixel 6 Pro, and the iPhone 13 Pro Max. They cost $24.95 for a skin and $49.90 for a grip case. A Nintendo Switch version is also expected to be released, and demand will determine whether or not more devices are included.

Dbrand is renowned for its mocking, caustic marketing that targets tech firms. Since Dbrand encouraged them to sue us on the product page last year, it even received a cease and desist notice from Sony for providing side-plate replacements for the PS5. Later, Dbrand would modify the plates to prevent them from resembling the official versions, and the product page now features the phrase "Checkmate, Lawyers." It is unknown if Nothing will hold Dbrand accountable for Something.
