Editing & Proofreading

$5/hr Starting at $25

I feel like my greatest skills lie in editing and proofreading since I had nearly 30 years of experience in working for defense contractors before I retired.  In fact, because of my skills I was allowed to edit and proofread the documents I authored, including operation and maintenance manuals for mainly Navy diving systems and equipment.  I always strove for excellence in everything I did.

I have been an avid reader since childhood  and enjoy many types of books (both printed and electronic).  Now that I am retired, I enjoy mostly fiction in a variety of genres, which include but are not limited to:

  • Romance (contemporary, historical, aliens, and shapeshifting)
  • Mystery
  • Time travel
  • Magic and fairy tales
  • Adventure
  • Science fiction

Since I began reading electronic books, I have been itching to get my hands on a number of them and offer my editing and proofreading skills to the authors.  Most of the authors have fantastic story lines and have very few mistakes.  But there are others who also have wonderful story lines, but the stories are marred by too many mistakes.  Those are the ones to whom I would truly like to offer my services.

When my daughters were younger, they enjoyed writing fan fiction based on anime characters.  I was happy to watch the anime with them so that I could edit their documents before they posted them.  I took the time to explain all the edits I made so that they could learn not to continually repeat mistakes.  The method worked quite well.

I have also edited resumes, college papers, and even a medical research paper for friends and relatives.  Again, I employed the method I used with my daughters and it seemed to work well in that arena also.

There is no job too small or too large.  I would love to work with you.
