What is a code server?: Code-server is a Visual Studio Code instance running on a remote server accessible through any web browser. It allows you to code anywhere and on any device such as a tablet or laptop with a consistent integrated development environment (IDE).

 What does VS Code server do?: The VS Code Server is a component of the Remote Development extensions and is managed by a VS Code client. It is installed and updated automatically by VS Code when it connects to an endpoint and if installed separately could become quickly out of date. It is not intended or licensed for use by other clients. 

why is code-server used for: code-server is an open source project that lets you run VS Code anywhere and access it from the web browser. Interestingly, we've seen usage everywhere from frontend developers to DevOps engineers managing fleets of servers.
