Porsche agrees to a 25-year solar power

$5/hr Starting at $25

Solar energy seems to be popular right now.

At its U.S. headquarters in Atlanta, Porsche announced on Monday that it intends to construct and run a solar power microgrid, cutting its yearly carbon emissions by 3.2 million pounds. The information was released a few days after Ford revealed that it had made the largest-ever purchase of renewable energy from a utility in the United States to power its electrical supply in Michigan.

Porsche's microgrid, an on-site electrical network that uses solar energy, will be installed beginning in September and finished in 2023. The $50 million development at the Porsche Experience Center property in Atlanta includes a sustainable energy installation.

The largest non-utility solar energy provider in Georgia, Cherry Street Energy, and Porsche have a 25-year operating deal that will power, among other things, Porsche's on-site Taycan EV fleet. The energy provider will own, run, and manage the microgrid while selling Porsche power.

The sustainability ambitions of Ford and Porsche will be accelerated over the following ten years, according to both companies. In a statement, Porsche stated that "a major amount of annual electricity needs" will be met by solar energy.

By 2030, Porsche wants to have carbon neutral operations across the board. Ford has established a goal to become carbon neutral by 2050 and power all of its facilities worldwide with renewable energy by 2035.
