Princess Charlotte Has 'Gravity' of Queen Elizabeth II at Age 2

Princess Charlotte has been compared to her late grandmother Queen Elizabeth II after impressing the public with her poise at the monarch's funeral.

Queen Elizabeth died on September 8 and her state funeral occurred at Westminster Abbey on Monday.

Charlotte, 7, attended the funeral service alongside her parents Prince William and Kate Middleton and older brother George, 9.

The children walked in to Westminster Abbey with their mother and sat quietly throughout the service, later following the procession of the queen's coffin through London in a car with Kate and Camilla, the Queen Consort.

Charlotte was later spotted crying as her great-grandmother's coffin passed her on its way to Windsor Castle and the queen's final resting place.

Many people commended the young royals on their behavior with one comparing Charlotte to the queen.

Tina Brown evoked former British Prime Minister's Winston Churchill's words after he met Elizabeth when she was a princess at age 2.

"When Churchill first met the queen at the age of 2, he commented on her extraordinary gravity and her poise. And I do feel somewhat the same way about Princess Charlotte," royal biographer Brown said on CBS.

Churchill met the then-Princess Elizabeth at Balmoral Castle—where she died earlier this month—in September 1928.

Serving as the chancellor of the exchequer at the time, Churchill wrote to his wife Clementine and remarked on the young royal's "astonishing" qualities.

He had no way of knowing Elizabeth would go on to become queen because it would be another eight years before her uncle King Edward VII would abdicate from the throne in order to marry the American divorcée, Wallis Simpson.

Edward's abdication led to her father becoming King George VI and his oldest, Princess Elizabeth immediately became the heir apparent.

Churchill served two terms as prime minister, including during World War II and was prime minister at the time of Elizabeth's coronation.

George and Charlotte's unexpected presence at the funeral was only announced on Sunday night and sought to serve a symbol of stability, as they are now second and third in line to the British throne.

Their attendance was suggested by "senior palace advisers" and would be favorable "if only to reassure the nation of the order of succession," according to reports in The Guardian.

Hundreds of people, including royalty, heads of state and other dignitaries, attended the queen's funeral in London.

Another private service will be held at the George VI chapel in Windsor for family and palace staff on Monday afternoon.

The queen's coffin will be lowered into the Royal Vault after King Charles III drops dirt onto the coffin.

She will be laid to rest alongside her father, mother, and sister.

The body of Queen Elizabeth's late husband Philip, who died last year, will be moved to next to his wife of 74 years.
