Usually, the way we work together is like this:
1. They send me and Excel spreadsheet with the design they want for the report
2. They tell me or show me where is the info they want in the report.
3. I proceed to create the report and they periodically review it, so any problem is fixed as soon as possible.
With these companies, they give me access to their server after signing a confidentiality contract, but I'm open to work as you need to.
