Technical Writer and Editor

I have over 9 years' experience as a Civil/Municipal Engineer which included significant writing, editing, and proofreading of technical reports, studies, and project specifications. I have written, edited, and/or proofread numerous engineering reports; including planning studies, design reports, proposals, financial aid/grant applications, permit applications, environmental reports, specifications, contracts and datasheets. I have generated many documents for various local, state, and federal government agencies. Writing these documents has also required significant research of information including demographics, projections, existing infrastructure, and upgrade and replacement options; among others. I am skilled at using various methods available to obtain the information necessary to achieve a final product which is factual, engaging, and communicates the intended information in a way that is easily understood by the intended recipient. I hold a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering with an Environmental Emphasis. My experience has been chiefly as a Project Manager working with local municipal governments. In this role I have performed capacity planning to determine necessary additional infrastructure and required upgrades or replacements. I then developed engineer’s estimates, coordinated project development, completed financial aid applications to acquire project financing, prepared project permit applications, and attended or held various meetings. My work as an engineer required written and verbal communications and meetings with clients, developers, contractors, and governmental agencies. Additionally, I scheduled, planned, and tracked projects using scheduling software programs. I have also prepared successful NPDES and Water Intake Permit Applications and Renewals on behalf of several municipal clients. Prior to my engineering experiences, I was integral to the development of annual budgets more than $1 million annually and assisted in the generation of an independent catalog line resulting in over $50,000 annual sales. These tasks were performed while working for a manufacturing facility owned by a multi-million-dollar corporation. In addition to my engineering degree, I also hold a Bachelor of Arts in Education obtained from a Liberal Arts College. This educational experience provided me with a well-rounded education and aided in the development of strong communication, critical thinking, and interpersonal skills. My education and experiences provide me with broad-based knowledge, understanding, and interest in a wealth of topics; it also aids my ability to communicate technical content to the less technical reader.
