UN welcomes Jeddah by parties in Sudan

It was revealed that Antonio Guterres, secretary general of the United Nations (UN), approved of the Jeddah Declaration that the army and the Rapid Support Forces (HDK) in Sudan signed.

Stephane Dujarric, the spokesperson for the UN Secretary General, released a formal comment on the topic.

The army and HDK in Sudan signed the "Declaration of Jeddah."While the UN's local partners and humanitarian relief workers continue to work in the field under extremely challenging circumstances, it was highlighted in the statement that Guterres hoped the aforementioned declaration would speed up aid operations.

According to the report, Guterres renewed his plea for an immediate ceasefire while pointing out that millions of Sudanese in need may now receive help more quickly as a result of the announcement.

The UN pledged to make every effort to put the declaration into effect and to continue providing humanitarian help in the statement, which called for expanding the discussions to bring about a lasting end to the conflicts.

Jeddah Declaration

The "Jeddah Declaration" was drafted as a result of talks between the parties in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, to put an end to the fighting between the army and the HDK in Sudan that had been going on for approximately a month.

The Sudanese army and the HDK made it clear in the declaration that they would refrain from any attack that would harm civilians and that the interests of the Sudanese people came first for both parties. The declaration was signed through negotiations carried out under the mediation of the United States and Saudi Arabia.
