Food is a key ally for human health, so many people turn to what dietetics says about some foods, to find out their harms or health benefits.

While there is a common opinion about the harm caused by certain foods, such as those containing saturated fats, talk of the benefits of certain foods remains controversial, including oats, which some consider a "food lie", while others see it as a "king of health benefits".

In light of this contradiction of opinions, science and studies remain a major reference to know the importance of oats and their role in our diet.

The benefits of oats Nadine Zaani, a professor of nutrition at the Lebanese American University, told Sky News Arabia, "Many studies have proven that oats

are very beneficial foods for health, which is beyond doubt, as it contains a lot of vitamins, fiber and antioxidants."

"They claim to be experts,"

Zani said, noting that oats "play a role in lowering blood sugar, in addition to helping to prevent heart disease, due to its role in lowering cholesterol levels, which is a major risk factor for the heart."

She also stressed "the need to beware of the information spread about oats on websites, as some of it is inaccurate and based on the opinions of people claiming to be experts, while their opinion is unscientific."

"According to the evidence, oats are a healthy meal par excellence," Zani stressed, noting that some people derive their negative opinion related to oats from the results of a study conducted in an unscientific way, while the definite result is based on the results of several studies of reliable references.

At the same time, she pointed out that "the most prominent and almost only negative effect of oats is that it causes bloating and gas for some people."

Between science and myths For her part, nutritionist Tala Al-Khatib told Sky News Arabia that "the state of controversy related to oats is caused by the contradiction between proven scientific facts and myths

that some seek to market."

She added: "The facts say that oats are a high-quality source of protein, as the percentage of protein in it exceeds most other types of grains, in addition to containing a high percentage of essential vitamins and minerals, such as iron, magnesium, selenium and vitamin B1."

She noted that the carbohydrates in oats are "complex carbohydrates, and therefore need more time to digest and convert to simple carbohydrates, which helps regulate blood sugar levels."

According to Al-Khatib, "Some people have loaded oats with benefits that do not have them, such as saying that it loses weight, while the fact that it gives a feeling of satiety faster, and therefore if we eat food containing oats, we will feel full quickly, and this is what may help to lose weight and not oats themselves."

"There is also no definitive scientific evidence about the positive effect of oats on sexuality, as some claim."
