I am an anthropologist and a photographer. I have a degree in anthropology, an MSc in photography and have recently submitted my PhD thesis in Governance, Knowledge and Innovation. I have attended photography workshops by Magnum Photos, the New York Times, the Guardian and others. This year I was awarded a scholarship to develop the European Master in Contemporary Photography at the European Design Institute, in Madrid, where I am currently based, and took part in the British Journal of Photography collective exhibition Open Walls at the Arles Photo Festival, the biggest and most acclaimed photography festival in the world. I have written several reports, articles and book chapters and reviewed numerous publications both in scientific and non scientific literature. I also have a long teaching experience, both in Portugal and Brazil. I worked as a photojournalist between 2003 and 2005. After that period, I started photographing in other areas, such as documental, wedding and event photography, but also stills photography for cinema, research projects and NGOs. I have collaborated with several publications, such as Lento Magazine in Uruguay during the three years I spent in Rio de Janeiro (2013-2015), where I was awarded a scholarship at the School of Visual Arts of Parque Lage. During that year, I also won the first prize (coup de coeur du jury) of the ARPIA (Association of Recherche et Production de Images en Anthropologie et Art) in Paris. In the last three years, I have been the official photographer for three international research projects funded by the European Research Council such as "URBiNAT – Healthy corridors as drivers of social housing neighborhoods for the co-creation of social, environmental and marketable Nature-Based Solutions” and to NGOs such as the Promundo Institute, a "global leader in promoting gender justice and preventing violence by engaging men and boys in partnership with women and girls”. My anthropological background has proven to be extremely relevant to my photographic practice, specifically concerning my approach to people and themes under scope. My photography is characterized to be socially and culturally sensitive, and I have been recognized as a photographer who delivers high-quality results even in stressful situations. I look forward to show you the way I see the world.
