I began my career as a freelance writer, writing thousands of articles for satisfied clients.
I operate a successful historical fiction novel review blog, Darlene Williams HF Reviews, which garnered over 300,000 pages views within six months of conception.
I decided that the time had come for me to venture into the world of writing a full length manuscript. I am currently in the process of completing a nonfiction book for aspiring freelance writers. It contains my strategies for commencing a successful career as a freelance writer, and avoiding the immense learning curve and inevitable setbacks that a freelance writer encounters. It will be published in 2014.
I am also in the process of research for my first historical fiction novel. Historical fiction has been a love of mine for over 40 years.
I learned something valuable while working as a freelance writer and, now, as an author: I have a passion for editing. This zeal has parlayed into a successful editing and proofreading business: Indie Histfic Proof Copy Editing & Proofreading. I work primarily with Indie authors, editing fiction manuscripts of all genres.
I am also the dedicated editor and proofreader for research assistants and students at Tecnológico de Monterrey, Mexico.
My personal hobbies include gardening, cycling, kayaking, and, of course, reading.
Work Terms
I work Monday through Friday. I charge per word for a total project fee quote. I do not work on hourly rate projects. I have chosen to operate on this basis as it is fair to both the author and myself. There are no hidden costs or unexpected charges.
I typically request the middle three chapters of the manuscript to assess an appropriate fee.
All communications are made through Guru's message system to protect both the client and myself from misunderstandings.
Payment is through Guru's escrow system. My standards terms are fifty percent deposit upon acceptance, with the remaining fifty percent payment upon completion and delivery.
