About

Writing/editing blogs, website content, nutrition, fitness, health, medicine, legal content, short and book-length fiction. Perfectionist proofing and copy editing - any length manuscript.

My writing, editing, and proofreading chops include work for the Associated Press, on both the print and broadcast desks. On a slightly humbler scale, I have countless times been "the guy" in the hot seat who made sure that small-town and regional newspapers, company newsletters, legal blogs and websites, indie-author fiction, and both business-to-consumer and business-to-business communications, are eye-catching, readable, and error-free.

I especially enjoy working with authors who write about religion, history, current events, health, and medicine, both conventional and alternative. I have the most fun working with indie authors who write both short stories and book-length fiction in the genres of religion and spirituality, fantasy, science fiction, and suspense.

I've been an RN specializing in emergency/trauma, burn care, and cardiac critical care, and a lawyer working mostly in complex civil litigation, and I've completed the required coursework for an MS in biology/mammalian pathophysiology. That background has made me unafraid to tackle a huge assortment of subject matter, and confident that I can learn anything necessary to give my authors the best possible value.

All authors are individuals first and writers second so it’s easy to respect the uniqueness of who they are and what they write. I never take a cookie-cutter approach to even the smallest project, because I want each client to know how important they are to me. New writers especially often feel as though they sweat blood while they finish each page. I always honor their battle by treating their work as I would want them to treat mine.

Even given the individuality of the author and their work, I always follow a few ironclad rules: I always give my writer the fastest possible turnaround time; every manuscript gets my best efforts, and I keep my ego detached, so that the only voice in the final manuscript is my client's - never mine.

Work Terms

I almost always work five or six days a week, but the actual hours I work are wildly unpredictable. Sometimes I'm eager to get rolling by 6:00 in the morning and, except for a couple of breaks, might keep at it until midnight. Sometimes I knock off after just a few hours; it just depends. Looking over my time sheets for the past six months, I'd say that I average between 45 and 60 hours a week, but that is about the best estimate I can offer. I cannot even give a good guess about the hours I work each day, because if there is a pattern it is so crazy-inconsistent that I sure cannot figure it out!. Working or not, I do try to be available to answer questions or discuss concerns during normal business hours. If I'm not, I try hard to return calls and emails within 24 hours.

As far as contact is concerned, our initial conversations need to be through this site or on LinkedIn, although I do NOT visit LinkedIn every day. After we've worked together for awhile, we can get in touch by phone or text. I also have no problem with setting up a conference on Skype, WhatsApp of Viber.
