While studying at Stanford University in the late 1970s, a friend heard that I had some skill with computers. He asked if I wanted to do some free-lance programming over the summer. Two years later, I decided I needed to go back to Stanford and finish the Electrical Engineering degree. Then it was back to being a hired gun in Silicon Valley.
In the later 1980s, I had enough projects and contacts to form a corporation, and Cygnusoft Inc. was born. Cygnusoft is still operating, and it's still "me and my projects," plus a cloud of talented people who help me balance the load.
I have worked with so many teams on projects of every size, from simple reports to entire start-ups, I can literally jump into a project at just about any point and be productive. Of course, I prefer being able to design things from the beginning!
