MR. FABIAN ODUM (Recipient of Nigeria's Agro-Journalist of the Year 2014 Award)

Mr. Odum is a man of many parts, food technologist, writer and journalist, who packs more than 12 years in the newspaper industry as senior journalist editing features and agriculture among other areas. Also worked as brewer at the Nigerian Breweries Plc plants in Lagos, Kaduna and Ibadan.

After the stint with Nigerian Breweries, he took to consulting on setting up production and processing for manufacturing in the 90s for small and medium scale enterprises, fallout of the backward integration and job creation drive of the economy.

Publishing, writing
While running this consulting job, he started the publication of an agro-allied business newsletter, Opportunity and Investment News for the development of SMEs. This ultimately led to writing his first business book, How To Make Money Buying and Selling Shares – Introduction To The Nigerian Stock Market.
In 1999, Mr. Odum joined The Guardian, the leading independent Nigerian newspaper as a Staff Reporter in the newly established section on agriculture. He has traversed the country, and had job-related trip to Israel in promotion of the sector.

Mr. Odum was awarded the 2014 Nigeria Agriculture Journalist of the Year by the Nigeria Agriculture Awards organisation in Lagos, Nigeria, event, which was honored by former Nigeria’s Minister of Agriculture, Dr. Akinwumi Adesina, now President, Africa Development Bank (AfDB) in Abidjan, Cote d’Ivoire.
As the former Head of the Agriculture desk (also former Head of Features Desk of Guardian On Sunday) of The Guardian, he believes in utilising every print space, deploying the telling words and loves attention to details.
